The Non-Essential Adventures of D'Art

Prison

I was listening to The Bishop yesterday and he was talking about how Prison may be the #1 place where potential lives.  The crowd went wild.  My mind went spinning.  I asked myself, “Is Prison the place that hosts potential?”

I have never been to Prison.  I never want to go.  But I’ve known people who’s misdirected intentions landed them in the Big House.  Was there potential in those people? Absolutely.  But I’ve also known people who weren’t in prison but were stuck in the monotony of life, spinning their wheels, getting no where in the process.  Either way, potential is there, untapped, raw, world changing potential.

Now the trick is to find a way to tap into that potential.

Week 6: Day 37

I feel like I’m back in the swing of things. Eating right, and pushing myself in the workouts. Cardio toady, I have noticed that my pace has picked up and I have to push harder than I did before, so that’s good. Last week my weight went up a few pounds now I am almost where I was before vacation. I’m thinking I shouldn’t weigh in every day. I’m not sure if it’s helping me or hurting me. Hum. I’ll have to think about that one. Next week I head to camp, so my workout and eating plans will be messed up. But I’ll be active. Anytime you spend a week with middle school students it a workout in itself.

Weigh in: 311 lbs.
Total Weight loss: 13 lbs.

Week 5: Day 31

We are in the mountains and not doing too good on our food part. There is so much junk food around, and the food has been so good! But we have been working out. Monday we hit the home gym and my buddy Stephen’s house, my first time on a Bowflex machine. Tuesday was Cardio and we ran uphill…I meant to say UPHILL. It got my heart pumping. This morning was legs day, and Kellie & I worked out our legs by walking and doing some leg squats and lunges up the hill…I meant to say UP THE HILL! So overall our workouts have been good, our eating, not so good. But hey, it’s vacation.

Week 4: Day 25

Run. Sweat. Walk. Sweat. Run. Sweat. Walk. Sweat. Shower. Sweat. Swim. Sweat. I don’t know if you are picking up on a trend here. Here is the moral of the story. Whether or not you are working out today, you are going to sweat…wanna know why? BECAUSE ITS FREGGIN HOT OUTSIDE! But other than the sun scorching heat, the workout was good. U2’s “It’s a Beautiful Day” is a great song to run too. I enjoyed it, in fact I keep repeating the song for the whole workout. But I don’t really think that Bono wrote the song for days like today, because IT IS HOT! OK, I’ll stop whining, after all I’m sitting in my office cubicle, which I’ll blog about soon, and it’s a nice 71 degrees in here, so all is well…until I have to go outside. Hey look its about that time. Enjoy your day…inside!

Total Weight loss: 13 lbs.

Week 4: Day 24

Are workout blogs getting old? I mean how many times can I say, “I went to get gym today” or “Cardio Sucks” or “Lowerbody workout” without it getting old? So I have decided that I will try to continue blogging because truthfully I look forward to it, but after this week I will cut the workout blogs down to once a week. Unless there is an uprising and throngs of people want me to continue blogging about my workout every day, which I seriously doubt, because in order to have throngs of people who up-rise, you first need throngs of people who read this blog daily, and truthfully, we just don’t. I mean come on if you are reading this you are one of probably 4 people who will look at this blog today. So congratulations, you are special…but I digress. Yeah, that’s all.

Weigh in: 312 lbs.
Total Weight loss: 12 lbs.

Piss. Can I say that? Piss, Piss, Piss. I don’t know if you can tell, but today wasn’t a very good day on the scale. I’m up a couple of pounds from last week. I’m not supposed to go up, I’m supposed to go down, come on now. Oh well. I have decided that I’m going to do it. If it takes me a couple of years, I’m done with being overweight. I’m tired talking about it. And maybe in the next couple of weeks, I’ll stop posting everyday, and maybe go to posting once a week. But I felt like I needed to post today, for me. Just to vent. OK, that’s all.

Weigh in: 313 lbs.
Total Weight loss: 11 lbs.

Week 4: Day 22

Wow, I made it past day 21. I can now say that I am in the habit of working out! Speaking of working out, my legs hurt. Before this program started, I didn’t consider working my legs out, but now I know that it is really important, even when they do hurt. I have been keeping a workout log, with how much I lift and such. Over the past 3 weeks I have increased almost in every area of workout and average of 30 lbs. So instead of lifting 70 lbs. for example, I am now lifting 100 lbs. So not only am I loosing weight, I am gaining muscle! That to me is exciting.

If anyone is thinking about doing the Body for Life program, let me just tell you that the “free day” makes it all worth it. Yesterday I pigged out on brownies and pepsi. And it’s all OK with this program. I put on a pound, but they say (by the way who is “they?”), that overeating once a week is good for your body. I guess it lets your body know that you aren’t starving. I just think it’s great that I can drink a pepsi or two and not feel guilty.

Weigh in: 312 lbs.
Total Weight loss: 12 lbs.

Week 3: Day 20

Today we got to the gym and bumped into Emily, one of theMIX Students, she said that she was headed to the Spinning class, and invited us to join her. Today was a Cardio. day, so we did. Kellie nor I have ever done any spinning, so we were in for a treat. If you have never done a spinning class, do it, you will feel like you are going to die. Really. Although it was a tough workout it felt great. So we have decided that on Saturdays we will do the spinning class, it changes things up a bit.

Weigh in: 311 lbs.
Total Weight loss: 13 lbs.
