The Non-Essential Adventures of D'Art

Twitter

My wife hates Twitter.  OK, so maybe “hate” is a strong word, but she doesn’t get it.  She says that Twitter makes stalking somebody OK.  And to that, I say, “Is that wrong?”

With Twitter I get to see into the lives that I would never have any access.  I get to publicly spy on people like Perry Noble, with whom at this point in my life, would be near impossible to get an audience with.  Or Mark Batterson, or Mark Driscoll or Chris Rivers.  So I’m a nerd, but I do like to see what people are doing, and saying.

So if you are a Twitteraholic like myself, then feel free to follow me, BIGDART.  But be warned, I’m not very exciting.

How Not to Get a New Motorcycle

Friday afternoon, I received word that my parents had been involved in a Motorcycle accident.  It appears that an elderly lady was making an illegal left turn.  My dad wasn’t able to avoid the collision so his Motorcycle hit her car at about 45mph.  The impact threw both my parents off the bike and knocked them unconscious.  Thankfully they were both wearing their helmets.

My mom was treated and released from the Hospital with some bumps and bruises and a pretty nasty case of road rash on her elbow.  She’ll be just fine, but it’s going to take some time, she is still pretty sore, and rightly so.

My dad was admitted to the Hospital, and spent a couple of days in the ICU.  He’s going to be alright, but he is battling a ruptured spleen and a bad concussion.  He has been moved to a non-ICU room and is doing better as of last report.  I know he’ll be fine because before we left he quipped, “At least now I can get that new Motorcycle I’ve been wanting.”  Same ole’ dad, same bad humor.

Gasoline

This is crazy.  Where has all of our gas gone to?  In the past 2 days I’ve driven over 55 miles passed 47 gas stations and only 2 of them had gas to sell.  Those two that actually had gas also sported lines more than 25 cars deep, pouring out into the streets.  This is crazy.

Good thing I still have half a tank.  I hope this mess clears up soon.  Half a tank won’t last forever.

Prison

I was listening to The Bishop yesterday and he was talking about how Prison may be the #1 place where potential lives.  The crowd went wild.  My mind went spinning.  I asked myself, “Is Prison the place that hosts potential?”

I have never been to Prison.  I never want to go.  But I’ve known people who’s misdirected intentions landed them in the Big House.  Was there potential in those people? Absolutely.  But I’ve also known people who weren’t in prison but were stuck in the monotony of life, spinning their wheels, getting no where in the process.  Either way, potential is there, untapped, raw, world changing potential.

Now the trick is to find a way to tap into that potential.

Passion is Mandatory

I have spent my most of my life on the move.  Growing up in a Navy family, off to college, then to chase after my dreams, I’ve never put down deep roots in any geographical location.  But during that time, I’ve come across a ton of people.  Nice people, fake people, hairy people, short people, smelly people, etc…. The list goes on and on.

I’ve narrowed my list down to one character trait that the people I surround myself with must possess.  That one trait is Passion.  If you aren’t a passionate person, find something you are passionate about, then come back and we can talk.

Passion is Mandatory.

Big

When was the last time you gazed at the moon in shear amazement of the bigness of God?  Go outside, do it now.  And while you are out there take a breath and understand that the same God who put that moon in the sky loves you.  No matter what you’ve done, where you are in life, how successful you are, or how bad you’ve screwed up, God still is in control, and his love for you is unfathomable.

A Beautiful Intersection

I stand at a beautiful intersection.  I stand at an intersection of where the safety of life and the danger of the Gospel collide.   I stand at an intersection of adventure and boredom. I stand at the intersection where grace meets condemnation.  I stand at an intersection of life and death.  I stand at a beautiful intersection.
