I have always been a farsighted futurist of sorts, so it’s been relatively easy for me to see the big picture. When I was 17 years old I was asked this question “What do you want out of your life?” I answered with a brazen 17 year old answer, “I want to impact the world for Jesus.” And I meant it. I expected it. I still expect it. I expect for God to use my life to change our world. It’s going to have to be God. Because I’m not capable to do it, but God is.
What are you expecting?
“An expectant heart is a breeding ground for the miraculous.” –Darlene Zschech
On the way to work this morning I was listening to the new Coldplay Album, Viva la Vida. I must admit, I’m not much of a lyric guy. It’s not that I don’t listen to the word, i do, and I enjoy them, but sometimes I get lost in the music and let the words pass by without grabbing onto them. But this morning I intentionally listened to what was being sung. Cue track 3 “Lost”
Just because I’m losing
Doesn’t mean I’m lost
Doesn’t mean I’ll stop
Doesn’t mean I will cross
That’s what I’m talking about. Incredible lyrics that hit home to us when we want to give up. When things aren’t going our way, what an great reminder that just because we might currently be losing, it doesn’t mean that we have lost. There is hope.
While listening to the lyrics in my car on the way to work, I came to a stop light. In front of me was a Buick with a bumper sticker I have never seen before. It cracked me up.
Last night Kellie and I were watching the best show on TV, Hell’s Kitchen, and it’s getting down to the last couple of people. During one of the interviews one guy said, “Tonight, I have to tell Chef who I want to go home, It’s going to be the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say.” I told Kellie how sad it was that this was the toughest thing he’s ever had to say. She looked at me and asked, “What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever had to say?” I didn’t answer her. Basically because I’m not sure what that would be.
I’ve never had to tell someone their loved one just passed away, I’ve never had to tell anyone that their spouse was cheating on them, and I’ve never had to address a country and tell of impending doom. So I’m still trying to figure out what the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say was. When I think of it, I’ll let you know.
What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever had to say?
Today I’m sitting at Panera Bread putting to paper what has been in my heart for years. Putting dates to goals, visions, and dreams that have for so long been, “someday.” I’m developing a Start-Up strategy of sorts. I’m excited to see what happens, how God moves, how He speaks. I love what the Bible says in Habakkuk 2:2-3:
“And then God answered: “Write this.
Write what you see.
Write it out in big block letters
so that it can be read on the run.
This vision-message is a witness
pointing to what’s coming.
It aches for the coming—it can hardly wait!
And it doesn’t lie.
If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.”
–Habakkuk 2:2-3 (Message)
Get in, buckle up, and throw your hands up, it’s about to get exciting!
I thought that I’d try to get caught up to current technology, by jumping on the Twitter Bandwagon. I must admit that it’s pretty cool, from the little bit I know right now. You too can join me, and be cool by joining the Twitterfest.
‘Cause I know you gave, the world your only son for us to
know your name, to live within the saviours love and he took my place,
knowing he’d be crucified and you loved.. you loved, a people undeserving!
Today I had a conversation with a lady while helping her take her apples to her car that she had just purchased at our fruit stand. Our conversation went something like this:
“So what do you plan on doing with this machine?”
“Well, I thought I’d go with your company because I’ve heard so much good stuff. I just couldn’t help my self, plus they just look so cool.”
“So are you just going to use it for basic home use?”
“No, I’m an artist, and I’ve never got into designing on a computer before, so I thought I’d give it a shot, it’s the way that things are headed, I thought I should learn it…I’m parked right over here.”
“Very cool. Here you go. You have a good day.”
“Wait a minute, I’ll go back up with you. I’ve got some more shopping to do.”
“No problem, I’ll hold the elevator.”
“Can you show me where Macy’s is located in this mall?”
“Sure, if you walk straight down this…”
“…That’s what I need, one of those Segways (I’m not making this up, that mall security guard was taunting me again) except my balance isn’t all that good. I’ve ridden before and it was a bit hard to get use to.”
“Really, I’ve been wanting to ride one for a long time.”
“Yeah, I was going to get one for my birthday, but decided to go with the computer instead. Yesterday was my Birthday.”
“Happy Birthday.”
“Yep, 87 yesterday, and still learning. Have a good day, and thank you.”
January 23rd at 7:30 pm of this year, I was sitting in Section 303, Row 8, Seat 6 for game 22 of what would become the Boston Celtics 17th Championship season, the first in 22 years. Did you follow all of that? I was there almost 5 months ago. That night I threw up a Gideon prayer, which I know you aren’t supposed to do, but I did it anyway. Tonight, prayer answered.
When I traveled to Boston back in January to see if I was hearing the heart of God correctly, (God do you really want me to start a church in Boston?) I met with a couple of church planters, Hank & John with Reunion Boston, who are already at work in the city, doing amazing things. I got the chance to pick their brains, and tell them about what I felt like God was saying. I asked them how they knew that Boston was where God was calling them to when they started. Hank told me that he prayed a silly prayer and asked God if He wanted them in Boston then let the Red Sox win the World Series. They did, and won their first title in 86 years. God answered his prayer.
So on the 23rd of January I asked God for the same favor. If you want us in Boston then let the Celtics win the NBA Championship. Tonight they did. I knew we were headed to Boston before tonight, but when that final buzzer sounded, I couldn’t help but smile.
I’m in love with motion graphics. I’ve never been an “artist,” but for some reason lately I have been intrigued in how good motion graphics make things look. The fruit stand that I work at I can get a pretty decent deal on some motion software, so I might give it a try.
Below is a motion graphic video that our church did a while ago. Watch and enjoy!
While doing some research I came across this website ChurchofBoston.com. I thought huh, cool, let’s check it out, so I did. Excellent website, great branding, awesome feel, I was pumped.
Come to find out Church Of Boston is not a church at all but a restaurant and nightclub. Huh, I thought again. After some further research I found a this picture which was advertising their Brunch deal.
Boston needs Jesus.
Here are a few ways to help pray:
