To my worried reader…I still exist. It has been a while since I have blogged, and for that I am not sorry. I have been a bit preoccipued. But to keep you from worrying in the future, I will blog more often. My goal is to blog at least 5 days a week, we’ll see how that works out for us. So without further adieu, here is what I have been spending my time doing, and consequently what I’ll be blogging about in the coming week.
Look forward to more, it’s coming.
This past Sunday I was serving on the Production team at Elevation Church. That put me backstage during 2 of the services. The screens that are used at Elevation Church are rear projection. The band was on stage singing to a packed house, sharing the love and life of Jesus. I was taking all of this in from a different perspective. The words flashed across the screen to a thumping kick drum and I saw something that I have never seen before. I was singing along with the words of an awesome Hillsong United song written, in reverse from my perspective, and this is what I heard:
And as I live each day, I’ll follow you
But that’s not what I saw. Remember I’m standing backstage, it’s hard to hear, it’s really really loud and it’s dark. And I’m trying to read the lyrics on the screen in reverse. Here is what I saw:
ouy wollof ll’I, yad hcae evil I sa dnA
Big freakin’ deal, I hear you say. But not so. For some reason this is how I saw it in my delusional state of darkened, loud, unfamiliar surrounding mind.
ouy wollof ll’I, yad hcae EVIL I sa dnA
My thought imediatily! Why is the word live in reverse evil? To tell you the truth it freaked me out a bit. but it also got me to thinking. Maybe if we don’t really live, maybe if we are just making it by, maybe if we are not engaged in living life to the fullest….Maybe that’s evil.
Thought for the day:
Worry is the poison that kills hope.
Just so you know, my wife, Kellie is SUPER RAD! She challenges me and pushes me to be the best I can be. She is an incredible wife, mother, not to mention a great sister and an awesome daughter. She sees the best in people. She makes me smile, laugh, and believe that there’s hope for humanity. Check out her blog she has ridiculous insight: HERE. She is by far the the most beautiful woman in the entire universe! It is because of Her, that tomorrow I will wake up a better man.
Thanks, Kellie for helping me see God at work.
I love you.
It’s not very often that my brother sends me a book in the mail. In fact, he has never sent me a book. He knows of my obsession with pages of black on white. Time after time he calls me to see what book he should read next. I suggest various titles. This tends to work pretty good. I get to suggest books that stretch traditional thinking and he grows through the process. But for the first time he not only suggests a book for me to read, but takes the step further and sends me a copy via Amazon.com. I figure if he is going to not only suggest a book, but spend his hard earned money to send it to me, I better read it. And read I did. Here is what I learned through this beautiful book:

God is Different.
God is Incredible.
God is Ever-Loving.
God is Concerned.
God is Beautiful.
God is Funny.
God is Caring.
God is Giving.
God is Involved.
God Is.
I knew these things before, but now they seem to ring more true. Buy the book, read it, and be challenged.
Creating excitement begins with presenting a compelling vision. We need to be continually working on defining and presenting our vision in a compelling way. Imagine if people were this excited to come to church and hear about Jesus.
We all desire to be in that “Sweet Spot” of life. But few are willing to chase what that looks like. Contrary to popular belief, the sweet spot is not a place of Bentley’s & Beaches, Lindsey Lohan is a good example of that. If we believe that chasing the almighty dollar is the answer to living in the sweet spot, we are terribly mistaken. The sweet spot is so much bigger than what is in your bank account. It’s so much bigger than global recognition. It’s even bigger than anything we can achieve by ourselves.
I believe that we all have God given giftings. What we do with those giftings are up to us. We can either use them for the furthing of His kingdom, or we can try to make a buck. I also believe that every once in a while an opportunity will jump up and bite us in the butt. Too often we dismiss that divine appointment, and keep on about our mundane existence. I also know that if we really do desire to live life in the sweet spot that God has designed for us it’s going to cost us everything, even our own lives.
“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?” Luke 23-25
It’s about trading in your story to be apart of an eternal story. It’s about realizing that God’s plan for humanity might just play out though my hands, but first we’ve got to be completely surrendered.
Complete Surrender + God Given Giftings + Divine Opportunity = Sweet Spot of Life
Will it be easy? NO, absolutely not. But I promise you, when you come to the end of this life, you won’t regret living life to the fullest. You won’t look back and bemoan the missed chances. You’ll just wish you found the sweet spot sooner. But be warned, the sweet spot is a dangerous place to live. Are you up for it? I say BRING IT ON!
