The Non-Essential Adventures of D'Art

Week 3: Day 18

2 Hamburgers and 2 Pepsi’s last night impeded my progress a little bit. This week has been tough on me in the food department. Monday was Memorial Day so I ate a little too much, well because it was Memorial Day, I didn’t actually eat too much, I just didn’t eat as many times during the day as I was supposed to. Then last night we had our last Wednesday night youth service until August, so we had a cookout. The burgers just smelled so good, so I ate a couple. Ah, oh well, just keep trucking.

The workout today was good. I didn’t dare try to run outside again this time. I hit the elliptical machine at the Y and did my Cardio. workout. Good day, back to eating right.

I had to pickup a guy at the airport this morning, so I didn’t make it to the gym….But I did do my Cardio. workout by jogging around the neighborhood. I have made a few suggestions about running outside when you aren’t use to it.

Step 1. Always start your run running uphill. That way the return trip will be down hill. I made this mistake today. I started my run by heading down hill. I felt pretty good, but the return trip almost made me have a coronary.
Step 2. If running with an ipod, secure it. I don’t have a strap for my ipod, so I had to carry it the whole time. Which made for sweaty hands.
Step 3. Be willing to kick a dog. I know this is strong language but, the dogs I saw this morning, needed to be kicked. No dog chased me, but I would rather kick the dog, then get bite by him.

I think I prefer the elliptical machine to running outside. Maybe one day my outlook will change, but for now, I’m going to stick to the gym.

Weigh in: Unknown, since I don’t have a scale at my house
Total Weight loss: 10 lbs.

Memorial Day

What a great day. Usually during Memorial Day and Labor day our family doesn’t do the typical holiday thing. I mean we don’t cook out or head to the lake, usually its just a day off that we can all hang out together as a family. But today was different.

My parents came up with their Jet Ski and we headed to the lake.  It was awesome!  I got Kellie on the Jet Ski, and we went all over the lake.  She was holding on for dear life.  Her only rule was that I not dump her into the water.  See, Kellie has this deal about getting into the water at the lake or even in the ocean.  When we went on our cruise, I had to carry her into the water in the Bahamas.  So she really didn’t want to go into the water.  Oops.  I guess I turned too hard, or we were off balance.  Over we went!  Since she was holding on for dear life, meant that I went with her too.  It was great.  Now don’t think I don’t love my wife, I do.  I truly didn’t mean to launch her off the Jet Ski into the water, I didn’t.  But since it happened on accident, it was that much sweeter.  So I got wet, oh well, the water felt great.

Now as I type this Blog, my dad is getting the grill going, very soon I will enjoy a nice steak, and maybe even a brat.  As far as the Body for Life stuff, tonight, it’s on pause.  I’m going to enjoy the rest of the day.  I hope that your day was just as fun as mine.

Week 3: Day 15

I found this machine that works out the shoulders. I did it. And now my shoulders are hurting now. Ahh, the soreness fells nice. They say that it takes 21 days to form a habit. So no habit has been formed yet, but look out when day 21 comes, we will see about this truth to the whole 21 days to a habit. I’ll let you know.

What a great day at the gym.  I got to the Y and there were approx. 1,232,483,384 people there!  It was very crowded, but I guess that’s what I get for going to the gym at noon on a Saturday.   Finally after finding a locker, I headed out to the elliptical machines for my cardio workout.  Just a side note, I always take my iPod to the gym, its a way to not be as focused on the time.  Today my iPod was completely dead! No music for carido day, this must be a sin.  I did my workout anyway.  Here are somethings I noticed as I worked out without music:

  • The guy on the treadmill beside me grunted a lot
  • It’s hard to read the closed caption TVs while running
  • Some guy dead lifting insisted on banging the weights around
  • I talk to myself when I’m really trying to push myself
  • That talking made a lady choose a different treadmill, not the one beside me
  • The Y staff usually just sits around and talk
  • Everybody except me was listening to some sort of device

So that was my day at the gym.  It was actually pretty neat to observe a little bit without being in my own little world.  So far it’s been a good two weeks.  Only 10 weeks left, in the Body for Life program.  I can do it.  I will do it!

Weigh in: 314lbs. –Really it’s like 313 1/2 lbs.  But you don’t count half pounds when you weigh in at over 300lbs.  So I won’t be using half pounds, until I get under 300 lbs.
Total Weight loss: 10 lbs.

Week 2: Day 12

Legs day. Nice workout, it was relaxing to get into the gym today and work out my legs. I like the lifting days, because it gives me the oppurtunity to listen to some good speaking. Today I listened to Mark Driscoll talk about the book or Ruth. It was awesome.

After the workout, Kellie the kids and I headed to the pool. Beautiful day, and cool pool water, what more could you ask for. I didn’t see any floating do-dos so all was good.

Tough, Tough Stuff

So I got the opportunity to speak tonight in the “BIG” church. It was awesome. I brought a message that I felt God had really wanted me to bring, but it was tough. I got about halfway through, and I felt like I hit a wall. I had the thought, “Why am I preaching this?” It was a tough subject, as I talked about God’s Mercy & Grace and his Justice & Judgment, and how God is both and. I know that someone got something out of what was spoken tonight, but the message was just tough.

I know that those tough messages will come around every so often, but I’m just glad that they don’t have to be given every time. Wow, now I feel better. I truly do.

OK, I’m off to watch the season finale of LOST, the best show on TV.
