Christmas Urks

Here in Augusta on the radio station they have been playing Christmas music since December started. That’s all well and good but they have a segment called “The Worlds Smallest Christmas Carolers,” Where they get 2 or 3 year olds to sing Christmas songs on the radio. I guess this is nice in theory, because how cute would it be for your 3 year old to hear themselves on the radio? In theory yes a great idea, in the real world, it’s a HORRIBLE idea. It’s not cute to hear anyone sing “We Three Kings” much less a 2 or 3 year old. Here is a statement that I wish everybody could embrace: Not everyone can sing! I know it’s Christmas, and I could be labeled a bit of a Scrooge, fine. But people please, don’t let the Christmas Season thwart your sense of hearing. Those “Worlds Smallest Christmas Carolers” are bad, really bad. Please stop the madness. Oh by the way, Happy Christmas.

Neck Deep

Two more days. Christmas is just around the corner of the calendar. Before we know it we will be neck deep in wrapping paper and gift boxes, we will probably throw away a few gifts without even knowing it. Half of what will be in the stockings will never get used. When I was a kid I got a few things every year in my stocking. Those things included: fingernail clippers, chap stick, an apple, an orange, house slippers, black church socks, and a calculator. Now with exception of the fruit, it seems that I am always looking for those things. Hum. Maybe that’s why “Santa” put those things in my stocking every year, maybe “Santa” was always looking for those items too. Hum. OK, I’ve got to go buy some nail clippers.
